A pagan explenation why god tried to kill Moses

We all heard the odd verse in the bible were God chased Moses as he ran to his house were his wife quickly cut the skin off of the tip of there sons dink.Yet the bible fails to explian why.Exspecialy since cutting off your foreskin was suppose to be an adult decsition between a believer of the hebrew god.A conscience covenant.In ancient Egypt it was common practise that when a male child reaches the age of adulthood cutting off ones foreskin caused a lot of blood.Blood symbolized the creative forces of god.Woman when fertile bleed monthly wich is why in ancient cultures it was thought that woman were more spiritualy closer to the gods.Since men dont bleed they thought that by cutting off the tip of the penis one would bleed,thus be fertile.Why then one would ask,did Moses wife place it on his big toe then?It was common thought at the time that the lower half of the body,wich touched the ground(were plants sprout,fertality)was were creative forces of the earth came from.Even Adam and Eve sprang out of the ground!Thus insuring fertality.Perhap the ancient Hebrew religion as it changed and grew through the times lost the original pagan meanings of this forgot to edit that verse out of the old testament.The meaning became lost and new meanings were added on later.

out of curiosity, do you have sources for the pagan practice? your explanation seems reasonable.

here's the apologetic i found. it admits to speculation, which is refreshing. i still found it lacking in more ways than one. the first of which that sticks out to me is how sickening it is to us circumcision as a reason to kill someone, but heh, what does modern medicine know?

for what it's worth: While the Bible does not precisely state all of God's reasons and motives for wanting to kill Moses, we can take what information is available and derive possible explanations. Although it may seem outwardly there was nothing wrong, to God nothing is hidden! The issue surrounds the circumcision of one of Moses' sons. I will speculate as to why it was not done at the proper time, on the eighth day after birth, as God commanded.

Because only one of Moses' sons is mentioned here – not having been circumcised, we must assume the other was! This could have been the cause – could it be that Moses did circumcise his firstborn according to the command of God, and Zipporah (not being an Israelite) – was appalled at the bloody act? And in-turn gave Moses such a hard time over it that he didn't want to go through it again? God knew about the situation and was long suffering in waiting on Moses' to repent. Moses may had hoped God would shut His eyes to the situation and not even bring the matter up.

Not only was Moses head of his household, but God had picked him to be head of the whole nation of Israel – Moses was now going to make a decision – circumcise the boy – or die! Zipporah and Moses must have discussed the matter and she knew Moses was dying before her eyes, making her quick to circumcise the boy! But she was still upset over having to circumcise her son.

I wanted to mention that although this article suggested that the Jews started cutting there kids dink first before the Egyptians.Many other scholars wich I cannot find right now,but I will later.Say the exzact oppisite.It is highly improbable that the ancient elite Egyptians borrowed the concept of circumsition from a wandering band of hebrew nomads.A superiour cultuar usually influences the customs of a repressed cultuar.Not the other way around.Thus the cultic practice of male circumsition(Wich Ive heard some scholars say its a form of symbolic child sacerfice by the letting of blood,when child sacerfices became unfashionable)was probably borrowed by the Jews from the Egyptian.Though this arguement is pureley speculative it does stand to reason.

It makes sense. If your going to posit that god can cure your AIDS, Cancer, ovarian cysts, help you conceive a child, or any number of other things (all of which are quite possible to overcome...imagine that) why won't god heal amputees? An actual medical *impossibility* suddenly becomming possible would pretty much seal the deal.

Does God only work miracles that can happen naturally?
Now isn't that convenient...

Off topic, but speaking of deadly disease, I saw a guy on EBay the other day selling the cure for cancer for only $5000 (by it now, even). He claimed to be divinely inspired and stated that the $5k would be donated to charity.

Go to EBay and type in Jesus and look at all the wacked out things peeps are selling (and buying). I saw a door with Jesus' image (a BIGGG stretch) for 3K, an easter egg with Jesus' image (another biggg stretch) for 10K to put the owner's daughter through college, and even a cardboard box that had been used under a car while the oil was changed that had the image of Jesus in oil on the cardboard for only 1.5K. The same kinda stuff can be found for the Virgin Mary.

I remember when I was in grade school in Atlanta, GA that there was a Pizza Hut speghetti ad in the subburb of Conyers that supposedly had the image of Jesus in the sauce. Hundreds of dumbasses worshiped and prayed to the speghetti for months. Talk about your graven images!!
