Question either under Suggestions or Miscellaneous

my only full-blooded sis is getting married this weekend. i bought my first suit -- flat black, of course -- and several wedding gifts, last weekend. i am almost as excited as i could be. almost.

my sister entered the heinous boondoggle known as AA several years ago. her fiance is also a member of this queer institution. as a result, they are having a wedding in the morning and the reception at noon ... SANS alcohol, but being the optometrist that i am, it could be worse. they could have a wedding party and dry wedding rehearsal dinner and all manner of dry silliness at every neck and turn but they chose not to and for that, i toast them heartily with Great Lakes Commodore Perry this very eve!

here is the irony: she rather surreptitiously asked me to buy two bottles of liquor (you may know of this, too, RC!) for the "dollar dance".

my current idea is Frangelico and Maker's Mark (women and men, respectively).

my question to you is this: which hard and soft liquor would you buy if that is the only hooch to be there? obviously, big brother is going to have his 12oz flask but for the guests -- and i will be taking the detritus home with me -- what would you bring?

Wine or Champagne?

If it's wine, are we looking for a table wine, or a sweeter desert wine?

I know how it sounds, but in my honest opinion, Vampire has had some of the BEST tasting wine I have ever had. I'm no connoisseur, but for my money, you can't go wrong with them. Then again, it might be a bit out of place at a wedding, but you really should give it a try. I'm usually not partial to merlot, but they have the only bottle that I'll drink with pleasure. The Pinot Grigio is amazing. Their bottles have gotten rather good reviews.
It's also rather affordable, despite being an import.

Other than that, I'm mostly partial to Sutter Home, or Yellow Tail.

Love,

I'm not much of a wine drinker. The Mrs. is. I have had some of the wines Goth listed..Yellow Tail is a common sight around the house..I'd really have no input of any value on that..I'd certainly take Goth's advice on it were it my question.
If you avoid the wine/champaigne route all together..

As you know..you can do marvelous things with Vodka! A little splash of Cranberry..a little Vermouth if you like..

As for the other..I'd have to say I'd pick this lovely Bourbon:

I'd put it up against any I've had..and I do like Maker's Mark on the occassion that I drink anything other than beer.

Best wishes to your sis and soon to be brother-in-law.
Oh..and of course she would want people a little tipsy for the 'dollar dance'..Got any wealthy uncles? Hopefully she'll get enough to pay for the honeymoon!

Well, having to re-acquaint myself with Californian wines after being spoiled by the awesome non-expensive French wines for so many years, for more bang for buck, I humbly suggest...

A bottle of Smoking Loon Syrah
It can be a bit "peppery" due to the oakiness but served with the right dish, it's pure bliss.
In an ironic way, It could suit your mood

neither. this is for only the dollar (shot) dance. it is a dry reception, otherwise, so i imagine a lot of people will be wanting to dance.

RC, what about Booker Noe?

I am not too familiar with Booker Noe sir.
Is the custom different with your family on the 'Dollar Dance'?
I'm privy to the groom being tipped cash for a dance with the bride..usually the more shots you take..the cash flows..that's what I'm used to seeing.
How's about some good ol' fashioned Jeagermeister..chilled?
A nice Cinnamon Schnapps goes down well..

i have heard good things. i will check out the Elijah. if there is one thing i have learned by reading the book Alcoholica Esoterica (i HIGHLY recommend this!), it is that religion and alcohol have gone hand-in-hand for all of the known history of wo/man. butler come from bottler. wine was always for the gods because it was harder to make than beer. the "honeymoon" comes from the fact that the father of the bride had to give the son-in-law mead for a month after the wedding. lunar cycles for the month and honey in mead led to this being called the honeymoon. crazy stuff.

anyone who wants to wish the bride and groom well can give a dollar, get a shot, then dance with whomever they chose.

well, these are Bud Light drinkers so i am not even sure they will be drinking the whiskey if i brought it. i am thinking something that is not overpowering so i wanted a smooth whiskey and a light liqueur.

Ah..it's pretty much the same..I forgot about the the groom..I was one once..I didn't get asked to dance!
I am quite certain that you will provide a quality liquor for all who chose to imbibe
I will check out the Booker Noe on my next go around at my favorite liquor serving watering hole as some bars here can only serve beer..3.2 at most 'beer bars'.
Any chance you'll meet a nice social drinking atheist girl at this shin-digg?
